Uganda is a small, landlocked country of made up of almost 25% of lakes and rivers and is therefore a very wet country. It is mountainous with heavily forested Bwindi National Park which is the first choice to go in Uganda for gorilla trekking. The country is equally home to savannah reserves of much interest, lowland rainforests and enchanting lakes which – in combination make for one of the big and unique wildlife experiences in East Africa.
“For magnificence, for variety of form and colour, for profusion of brilliant life — bird, insect, reptile, beast — for vast scale — Uganda is truly ‘the Pearl of Africa” Winston Churchill penned these words about Uganda in 1907, and more than a century later, they still ring true.
Uganda is one of the world’s most biodiverse countries: home to 13 types of primates and 330 mammals, of which six are found nowhere else, as well as more than 1000 bird species, it also encompasses a startling range of landscapes, from Africa’s highest mountain range and the source of the Nile – the world’s longest river – to the continent’s largest lake.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. Its mist-covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants.

Lake Mburo National Park is a compact gem, located conveniently close to the highway that connects Kampala to the parks of western Uganda. It is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks and underlain by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks which date back more than 500 million years.
