11 Day Migration, Crater and Zanzibar Safari (Best Value)

Proving that experience is not confined by budget, this 11day tour delivers a high-quality safari and beach holiday without breaking the bank. Perfect for couples and honeymooners as well as first-time safari travellers, the itinerary makes use of local flights rather than road transfers, giving you more time to relax and explore at your destinations.

Beginning with an easy night at a riverside lodge outside Arusha, the first part of the tour combines Tanzania’s must-see Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park, giving you the chance to tick off the Big 5 along with massed herds of migrating wildebeest and zebra. Your Ngorongoro accommodation lies close to the crater rim itself, allowing for spectacular views, while your Serengeti lodge is a mobile affair that sets up in different locations in the path of the Wildebeest Migration to guarantee you front-row seats to the action.

Then it is time to swap the golden grasslands of the Serengeti for the golden sand of Zanzibar’s north-west coast where you enjoy four nights at a secluded spa resort. Equally at ease offering diving and snorkeling tours as well as pampering massages and yoga classes, Hideaway at Nungwi Resort & Spa is the ideal place to wind down after a week on safari.

Itinerary

Welcome to Tanzania. On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by your tour guide after a short briefing. Transfer to the foothills of Mount Meru for an overnight stay at the Rivertress Country Inn with views of Kilimanjaro in the distance, the perfect base to begin your African adventure.

Rivertrees is the best place to unwind after a long journey. There is a swimming pool, and if you would like to stretch your legs, follow one of the trails available at the hotel for a walk along the US River, where you will see a variety of birds and primates as they pass the day playing among the green, a good introduction of things to come. Return to your cottage, complete with a private shower and bathtub, or take to the sun deck as you catch up with old friends. Complimentary wifi is available.

Breakfast and transfer to the airport to catch your flight to Manyara. On arrival in Manyara, you will be met by your safari guide and transferred to the modest but cozy Ngorongoro Crater Camp, hidden in the embrace of a small forest on the crater rim, with good access to the crater.

Spend the afternoon in the crater and complete the experience the next day carrying a packed lunch and spend the whole day of game viewing. Ngorongoro is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, within which one will find the densest concentration of large mammals. It is about the only place in the world where one can see the Big 5 in a single game drive — explore the crater floor searching for elephants, rhinos, buffalo, lions, and leopards. Later, before the sun sets, return to your camp and enjoy deliciously prepared meals under the African sky.

Breakfast and head out by air for the world’s wildlife capital, the Serengeti National Park. On arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to Kichakani Serengeti Camp. This mobile camp has 3 different locations to ensure you get a firsthand experience of the migration. Watch the masses of herds as they move across the Serengeti plains in search of green pastures, whether it’s the birthing season or the drama-packed river crossings.

Morning and afternoon game drives are the times to engage with your expert guides as they take you to the heart of the action. There is always something new during each game drive. Drive through the abundant plains game as the predators, the bid cats lurk in the wild, hidden, ready for a hunt, wild dogs howl in the distant while the crocodiles bask in the daytime sun. Later, return to your spacious en-suite tented suite, and the action is not complete. From your private viewing deck, complete with easy chairs and a table, look into the wild of the Serengeti as the wandering herds pass in the distance.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport to take your shared charter flight to the blue waters of Zanzibar Island. The flight may stop at other airports. On arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel, the Zuri Zanzibar Hotel and Resort, where you can wash the dust of the safari as you take idle walks on the sandy beaches.

Zuri is set on the eastern coast—the best beach of Zanzibar—and is a place to relax as well as continue your Africa adventure. The wild open savannah of Africa is teeming with animals, and its blue, sandy beached sea is no disappoint either. Take snorkeling trips on the reefs or head out for a scuba diving adventure, enjoy a short cruise on the sunset dhow, or take a fishing trip. Later, return to your hotel for pampering massages, beauty treatments, yoga sessions, and a workout in the gym.

The hotels Spice Garden is the perfect spot for a stroll, not forgetting the Stone Town tour, a great culture and history experience as you take a step back in time to age of the Arab traders, A spice tour brings the aromas of the past and stories as to why Zanzibar is known as the Spice Island.
