Ruaha National Park

Tanzania’s best-kept safari secret

Where Luxury Meets Untamed Wilderness

Only 1% of Tanzania’s visitors make it to Ruaha National Park—but those who do are rewarded with one of Africa’s most authentic and awe-inspiring wildlife experiences. Remote, raw, and remarkably rich in biodiversity, Ruaha is where luxury meets solitude—far from the crowds, deep in the wild.

The Wild Heart of Southern Tanzania

Ruaha is Tanzania’s largest national park and one of the most ecologically diverse. This is where Southern Africa’s woodlands collide with East Africa’s savannah, creating a unique terrain teeming with wildlife. The permanent Great Ruaha River sustains an extraordinary ecosystem, drawing vast herds of elephant—the largest in East Africa—and predators in healthy numbers, including lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and endangered wild dog.

Exclusive and Untouched

This is not your average safari circuit. Ruaha’s isolation makes it a fly-in destination and limits visitor numbers—so your clients will feel like they have the park to themselves. Riverside tented camps and intimate lodges blend barefoot elegance with exceptional hospitality, making Ruaha ideal for travelers seeking the exclusivity of Africa’s quieter corners.

Pairing Possibilities: Ruaha & Beyond

Ruaha is a cornerstone of the Southern Tanzania safari circuit. Pair it with the sprawling Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous) for an extended adventure, or go even wilder with a chimpanzee trek in Mahale Mountains or Gombe Stream National Park. These combos offer a safari story few others get to tell.

When to Go

Ruaha is a year-round destination, but your safari experience will change with the seasons:

  • May to October: Dry season and peak wildlife viewing. Animals cluster at water sources, and visibility is excellent.

  • November to April (Green Season): A birder’s paradise, with over 570 species and spectacular scenery. Expect fewer visitors, vibrant landscapes, and the magic of new life. Peak rainfall falls between February and April.

Insider Tip: Travel during the Green Season for low rates, dramatic skies, and a safari that feels truly yours.

Accommodation with a Soul

Ruaha doesn’t do mass tourism. Accommodations are limited, but every lodge and tented camp we recommend is handpicked for comfort, character, and proximity to the action. Whether it’s sundowners by the river or game drives that begin at dawn, our operator partners make the experience seamless, safe, and unforgettable.
