Queen elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park, in southwestern Uganda, is one of the country’s most iconic safari destinations. Known for its classic savannah landscapes, it offers an incredible mix of wildlife, birdlife, and scenic beauty. The park is home to over 610 bird species, making it one of the top birdwatching destinations in Africa, and offers a refreshing alternative to Uganda’s more gorilla-centric itineraries.

The park is especially renowned for its tree-climbing lions, a rare sight in Africa. Other wildlife includes elephants, hippos, buffalo, crocodiles, and numerous antelope species. The combination of open savannah, wetlands, forests, and lakes supports an exceptional diversity of species.

Thanks to its easy accessibility, Queen Elizabeth National Park is featured in many Uganda safari itineraries, often paired with gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or chimp tracking in Kibale Forest National Park. However, the park is just as rewarding as a standalone destination, particularly for birding safaris.
