5 Day Uganda Fly-In Gorilla Trekking Safari

This once in a lifetime experience takes you deep into the mysterious Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to see the highly endangered mountain gorillas. On arrival at the Entebbe International Airport in Uganda, you will connect to the flight to Kahihi airstrip, located near Bwindi, where you will be met by your guide and transfer to your accommodation. Bwindi is one of the two remaining parks in the world that are home to the mountain gorillas in danger of extinction.

Some of the gorillas are habituated and accustomed to human presence, you will observe the gorillas from a safe distance as they go about their daily lives, later return to your accommodation, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, and keep an eye open for gorillas that come close to the camp.

During your five-day gorilla experience, you will stay in an authentic and luxurious tented camp, you will also have a cultural experience with the indigenous Batwa people, for the more adventurous one can also include this five-day safari with a trip to the Serengeti or Masai Mara to see the big five – the ultimate all round wildlife experience.

Itinerary

Day 1: Land at Entebbe | 1 Night

Welcome to Uganda, on arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your guide and transfer to The Boma for an overnight stay. The hotel located in Entebbe is the perfect base to rest after a long haul flight and just before beginning your adventure to Bwindi in search of the endangered Mountain Gorillas.

Days 2 - 4: Track the Gorillas in Bwindi | 3 Nights

Breakfast and later transfer to the airport to take your scenic flight to Kahihi Airstrip located not far from the edge pf the Bwindi National Park, on arrival you will be met by your safari guide after a short briefing learn more about the local history, and culture as you drive through small farm holding and terraced hills en route to your camp.

Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camo is located within the Bwindi National Park in a private concession; it’s not uncommon to see gorillas walking right through the camp. Check in and relax as you look forward to a most expected date with the Mountain Gorillas.

On the day of the trek, you will have an early wakeup call and set out for the trek through the dense, muddy and humid rain forest, the trek is challenging and one needs to reasonably fit and healthy, as you search for these gentle giants of Bwindi.

Your guides and trackers will take you to one of the identified habituated gorillas families, that is accustomed to human presence, as you approach it is sight to behold as you watch them go about their daily life, oblivious to your presence, watch them as they feed, forage and play and interact for about an hour, before beginning the trek back to the camp with memories of the best experience ever.

Spend the rest of your time at the Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, birding, hiking, relaxing at the lodge as you enjoy the facilities and take in the sights and sounds of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or visiting the local villages for a unique cultural experience. The Batwa people have lived in Bwindi for thousands of years and still follow their old ways of life, visit local villages as you witness the way of life of these incredible people.

Day 5: Farewell to Bwindi

Finally, it’s time to say goodbye to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, breakfast and join your guide for the transfer to Kahihi airstrip to take your flight back to Entebbe International Airport, as you continue with your onward safari arrangements.
