Itinerary

Welcome to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Upon arrival you will be met by your tour guide and after a short briefing embark on the 2 hours scenic drive across the rift valley to Loldia House, arrive at Loldia to a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon relax at Loldia with the butler around to attend to your every need. Loldia offers wonderful nature walks surrounded by the distinctive yellow green fever acacia, take a walk learning about the local birdlife.

In the lawns there are other wildlife too, that may wallow by in the idle afternoon out of curiosity or to take a bite of the green lawn, such as giraffes, monkeys and buffalos. Wild animals roam freely on the farm, at dinner you may catch a glimpse of a hippo or two splashing and wrestling it out in the lake.

Early wake-up call and breakfast and before the sun breaks collect your picnic lunches and head out for a full day of game viewing in the Lake Nakuru National Park, a birders paradise and rhino sanctuary where the greatest avian spectacle in the world used to play out, more than two million flamingos would carped the alkaline waters of the soda lake creating a sea of pink.

During the game drive around the lake you will be able to see a variety of wildlife, such as the white rhinos – one of the endangered species, the common zebra, the Rothschild giraffe, hippopotamus, buffalos and elands. The lake has a rich birdlife, flamingos, pelicans, marabou stork among many other animals.

Enjoy your lunch at the view point, with magnificent views of the lake before beginning the trip back to loldia with a game drive en route. Dinner and enjoy the quite of the loldia night with the hippos splashing the waters in the distant lake.

Breakfast and transfer to Loldia airstrip to take the Governors Aviation flight to Masai Mara. On arrival met by your guide and with a game en route transfer to the camp a refreshing welcome drink and later lunch.

Spend the Next 3 days at the Main Governors Camp, once a hideout and retreat for the colonial governors. The camp has spacious tents each with a wide deck either overlooking the endless plains of the Mara or the Mara River, for something more intimate you can upgrade to stay at the Little Governors Camp, with only 17 tents and in a secluded island of the Mara River, to get to little governors you need a short boat ride and later a short walk across a riverine forest.

Main Governors offers good game viewing just from the comfort of the lodge, it is not surprising while taking your lunch in the open to see a herd of elephant’s wallow by, there is also a resident warthog and his family that has made the camp his home, spending the day pasturing among the guest and the tents. Il Moran Camp also part of the Governors family of camps is another hide away, it has 10 tents and is hidden into a forested area of the Mara River, perfect for honeymooners- whichever your option enjoy the wildlife in this hidden part of the Mara right from your tent or deck – spend the days on morning and afternoon game drives and later in the day return to pre-dinner sundowners around the camp fire exchanging stories of the day and later after a candle lit dinner retire to bed.

On day 4 for the adventurous take the option hot air balloon safari. The safari begins before sunrise, after an early wake up call, take some coffee and cookies before the transfer to the hot-air balloon launch site, the crew get ready pumping the hot air into the balloon using the burners and as the sun break and the balloon fills and rises, it’s a spectacle to behold and a totally different way to see the Mara and the wildlife. From the top you can see the animals start their day from their night hideouts, and as the sun rays hit the plains bringing to color the splendors of the Mara. The filming and photo opportunities are out of this world! As the balloons flows, guided by the wind, keep an eye for the tall and the big animals, easy to spot from the sky, a giraffe in the distant, a herd of elephants in a row towards a water hole, enjoy the silence and stillness of the flight. After an hour in flight, land to a freshly cooked champagne breakfast , wherever you land on the open endless plains of the Mara with the curious wildlife watching from the short distance , after breakfast take a game drive en-route back to camp or continue on some more game viewing with your guide. In case you decide not to take the optional balloon safari, you will have an extended morning game drive in search of the Big 5.

Today take an early morning before returning to the camp for breakfast, early morning game drives just before sun break offer the best opportunity for photography, sun breaks in the Mara are also magical, go out in search of the early risers to hunt, for example the leopard flexing itself in anticipation for a hunt. Spend the day at the camp and after lunch as the afternoon sun sets and the animals come out of their shade, head for another game drive returning to the camp before dusk.

Later round the camp fire over a drink share the stories of the day, enthrall your listeners with your sightings of the Mara, the Mara always has a surprise to offer- and more surprises await you the next day – head out for new adventures taking an optional fly in safari to Lake Victoria for fishing and bird watching at Mfangano Island Camp.

Time to say goodbye to the endless plains of the Masai Mara, lunch and transfer to the airstrip to take your flight back to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport.
